3 Wheel All Terrain Pushchair
Whether you're seeking a stroller for woodland walks or strolls on the high street, a pushchair that is all-terrain with excellent manoeuvrability will be an ideal fit. These models usually have large wheels and have a powerful suspension for smooth riding over bumps and rough ground.
The majority of them are suitable from birth and come with a lie-flat baby seat or a newborn carrycot. These vehicles also have tyres that do not flatten, usually comprised from foam.
Suspension
A quality all-terrain pushchair should have a sturdy suspension that is specifically designed to be ultra smooth and comfortable on rough terrain. This will help your child feel relaxed and at ease. The wheels are typically large and puncture-proof, preventing injuries caused by sharp rocks or sharp sticks.
Some all-terrain strollers even allow you to switch between additional tyres for different conditions. Certain all-terrain strollers feature an swivel wheel which can be locked to offer stability, or left unlocked to permit greater maneuverability.
To give you added peace of mind, some all-terrain pushchairs will include a lockable handbrake which is easier to reach and use with your free hand instead of a traditional brake pedal placed on the handlebars' sides. This is a great option if you're a fan of steep hills.
If three wheel pushchair don't wish to go as extreme as an all-terrain pushchair there are plenty of strollers available that have very good - but not the ultimate off-road capability, with excellent suspension and large wheels. These are typically cheaper than the more expensive full-on all terrain buggy options but are perfectly suitable for trips to the park with your dog or short country walks.
Many of these strollers are suitable for newborns, with either a carrycot or a car seat that is ready for infants. Be aware that the seats will not lay flat when pushing over bumps or dips. As per EU regulations, they must meet minimum standards of an incline of about 150deg. Graco has gotten around this issue with its new 'comfitech in-seat suspension' which allows the seat recline to a more comfortable angle for a bit more comfort. This feature is available on the Lila XP All-Terrain Pushchair, which can be paired with a compatible Graco Infant Car Seat to create a 3-in-1 travel system.
Seat
There are a wide range of 3-wheeled all-terrain pushchairs that provide a fantastic off road capability. These are perfect if you live on the countryside or walk regularly on rough, uneven terrain. These are more robust and durable than a standard pushchair. They have special features such as large puncture-proof tires to withstand the most difficult surfaces. They are often quite large and may be difficult to maneuver in tight spaces or in aisles of shops.

It has a 360-degree lockable front wheel that allows easy maneuverability and a quick one-handed folding. It is suitable from birth, and is compatible with an adaptor for the UPPAbaby infant car seat or carrycot (sold separately).
There are a number of all-terrain strollers that do not have the option of a reversible seating. However the Oyster 3, Venicci Tanum and egg 2, which come with this option, have a good weight limit and a very robust off-road ability. There are also many pushchairs that are classed as all-rounders, like the iCandy Pear and Bugaboo Cameleon, which cope very well with the rough terrain of the park or National Trust places but don't offer the off-road performance of true all-terrain pushchairs.
There are also crossover models that are an excellent compromise between off road and high street. They have big wheels, excellent suspension, and are built in a pushchair style, with the option of reversible seating as well as carrycots. Brands like iCandy, Easywalker and Bugaboo have come up with some fantastic models to look at.
Wheels
If you reside in a rural location or regularly take your baby for walks over rough terrain an all-terrain pushchair is essential. These pushchairs typically come with larger back wheels than standard pushchairs which makes them better at handling bumpy off-road terrain, and ensuring a smooth ride for your child. They also have sturdy suspension and puncture-proof types so that they're suitable for use on woodland, grass or paths through the forest or gravel tracks, as well as market town cobbles.
Certain all-terrain strollers have a lockable wheel on the front which provides extra stability when walking on rough terrain or high kerbs. Others have swivel front wheels which allow you to manoeuvre the buggy more easily when you are changing direction or turning corners.

All-terrain pushchairs come with air-filled tyres, which provide excellent shock absorption and are great for tackling rough ground but they are more susceptible to punctures than the solid EVA tyres used on city strollers, so it's worth buying repair kits, spare inner tube and pump alongside your pushchair. Some models come with foam tyres that are less prone to puncture but could be more difficult to push.
The brand new Bugaboo Fox 5 is a great example of a child's pushchair that has both air and foam-filled tyres, an excellent suspension system, and large rear puncture-proof wheels that are ideal for off-road or running (once your child is old enough). The model is also suitable for children from birth and can be used with a carrycot or a lie-flat seat.
The iCandy Peach All-Terrain is another option. It has big tyres, a single steering wheel at the front, and huge tyres. It is not as flexible as other all-terrain strollers on this list, but it can be able to handle terrain that is hilly and features a large, one-handed fold that is great for long walks in the countryside, or long trips. It is also suitable for babies and has a spacious canopy that extends with an adjustable handlebar and a large, spacious basket.
Stores
For parents that would like to take their children off-road, but don't want to commit to tackling Ben Nevis, there are some top all-terrain pushchairs that provide the best of both worlds. Choose a model that has an excellent all-terrain capability, solid suspension and big puncture-proof wheels, but built in the traditional pushchair style, with reversible seats and full carrycot options.
UPPAbaby's popular Ridge all-terrain pushchair is a great example of this. It has a great suspension, a simple one-handed fold and a generous 10kg basket. It also has features that are suitable for parents, such as an adjustable handlebar, hand-operated brake on the right and a huge covered storage space. A hood that can be removed and brushed down with cool soapy water is another helpful feature that can prevent mildew and mould from forming.
If you plan to take your all-terrain stroller off-road and on the road, you should consider air-filled tires instead of rubber grips. These will provide an easier ride on rough terrain and make it easier to navigate in tight spaces. If you plan to use your all terrain pushchair for occasional jogging ensure that the front wheel is swivelable or has a quick-release feature so it can lock in place for more stability.
It is important to verify that the fabric of the pushchair is machine washed to maintain them in pristine condition. If not, a spot clean using soapy water and warm water should suffice. Drying the fabric thoroughly outdoors will also help to prevent mildew and mould from forming.
