Three Wheeled Buggies
If you're seeking a buggy to run with or just a nifty stroller to tackle strolls around the neighborhood, three-wheeled buggies are great for mobility. Their compact design makes them easy to maneuver, even in tight places.
If you're looking for a smooth ride with your baby, select models with 360deg front wheels with swivel. However, they are susceptible to punctures, so make sure you are prepared with an repair kit.
Sturdy frame
New figures show that the three-wheeled buggies that were the symbol of the decade that had more money than common sense, are in a steep decline. They are being replaced by four-wheelers that can handle a wider variety of terrain, yet still look elegant and easy to push.
The general idea is that the bigger the wheels, the easier it will be for your buggy to cope with bumpy and rough pavements. Having larger wheels both front and back makes it easier to maneuver and more stable when walking downhill or on rough terrain.
MFM reviewer Kath tried the buggy with a newborn and a 3 year old and found that it coped well with grass, cobbles, rough roads, dirt tracks and kerbs. three wheel pushchair said it felt solid to push and extremely solid on rough terrain. Its tyres (which are inflatable so need occasionally pumping) offer built-in suspension, which was very comfortable for my children.
Another thing to think about is the seat size and shape. You want the seat to be large enough for your child to be at ease and to lie down. Certain three-wheel buggies come with a lie-flat option that lets your child face you, whereas others only allow a face-to-parent one.
The Roma Atlas is a great option for off-road or muddy walks. This buggy is suitable for a single child as early as birth and can be modified to accommodate two children as your family grows. It is suitable for babies and toddlers from age 4 and includes a bumper bar, raincover, an improved 5-point harness, and a large cushioned seat. Storage options are also good, with a large basket with zip pockets on the hood, and an attractive pouch on the rear of the seat unit.
Larger wheels
Larger wheels mean that your buggy will have more stability on rough terrain - ideal for buggies that are off-road. They also allow you to maneuver the pushchair in tight spaces. Many three wheeled buggies feature rotating front wheels that aid you in maneuvering around corners with ease, whereas others are designed for running and come with fixed front wheels that lock to increase the speed and stability at which they can be pushed. This is especially useful when you hit a tree or a kerb. The front wheel will lift slightly to avoid hitting it.
A lot of 3 wheeled pushchairs come with air-filled tyres which allow them to handle a wide range of terrains. They are also more flexible than 4 wheelers. They are also lighter. They are also more susceptible to punctures, so you'll need to have an repair kit and spare inner tubes on hand.
Our top 3-wheelers include the Mountain Buggy Core and Venicci Carbo Lux. Both of these buggies have larger wheels that, according to MFM reviewer Kath, "perform really well on gravel tracks, grass and market town cobbles" and can easily go up and down kerbs. The buggies also come with suspensions that according to Kath "smooths out bumps very effectively".
The downside of having larger wheels is that they can make some buggies quite wide and may struggle to squeeze through narrow spaces. This is an issue if you're using it as a jogger or to be able to get through narrow doorways when out and out and about. Fortunately, the majority of models come with small folding options that let you remove the front wheels to make compact storage.
Easy to maneuver
A three-wheeler can be easier to maneuver with children. They are designed to ensure that the front wheels turn on a dime, and are easy to maneuver, making them perfect for terrains that are difficult, such as parks, cobblestones and bumpy roads. dirt tracks.
MFM reviewer Kath tried out a three-wheeler with her newborn and toddler and said: "The Terrain was a delight to maneuver on the terrain with the swivel rear wheel particularly useful. I was also impressed with how well it handled kerbs when using the hand-operated break. I found it to be extremely stable when driving downhill or over uneven terrain."

The only downside to this amazing maneuverability is that the larger wheels of the 3-wheel buggy may make it difficult to fit into tight spaces. This is something you need to keep in mind when you live in one of the cities. If this is an issue, a 4-wheeled buggy may be the better option for you.

Kath, our MFM reviewer, also appreciated the roominess of the buggy. There's a large, easily accessible basket that's huge for such a small buggy, plus there's an easy-to-use pouch that zips up at the rear of the seat and even 2 smaller mesh pockets inside the hood for your keys and phone.
